Pizza Express Aberdeen
Pizza Express, Aberdeen was one of a number of developments in Scotland that Malcolm Fraser Architects were commissioned to do; the start of the chain in Scotland. The Company's design principles had to be utilised and incorporated into an old shop unit: cooking to be visible; maximum number of covers; maximum daylight and visible dining to the street. Aberdeen's restaurant, being on a dominant corner site, gave the opportunity of focusing on the corner as the entry into the restaurant, whilst still allowing seating and tables at the street frontage to both sides. As well as increasing daylight into the restaurant space, views to an adjacent church tower were made by inserting the large rooflights over the diners. As for all of the designs for the restaurants, a simple palette of materials was utilised, with colour brought in at the bar areas
