The conversion of existing mews buildings and a vacant Victorian lawyer's office have provided simple, naturally lit, open plan office spaces within the centre of Edinburgh. The alterations included raising the roofs of the mews buildings to give increased ceiling heights; reroofing the Victorian section to bring increased daylight and natural ventilation into the deep plan; linking the different levels between the existing buildings with the addition of a new glazed element containing the vertical circulation; and finally forming a small urban garden. The materials utilised in this project have acknowledged the precedents of the area and building within Edinburgh.
